Christianity was founded by Jesus of Nazareth in the early first century CE. Around 4 BCE, Jesus was born in Bethlehem in Judea to Mary. Bethlehem falls in present-day regions of Israel and Palestine.

.Old Testament (Jewish Scriptures) predicted the coming of a Messiah to free the Jews from Roman oppression. The Old Testament envisioned that the Messiah would be born at Bethlehem, the birthplace of one of Israel’s greatest Kings, David. Jesus was believed to be the Son of God and the awaited Messiah as prophesied in the Old Testament.
Christmas is celebrated as the birth of Jesus.
Jesus was baptised by his cousin, John the Baptist.
The 12 loyal followers of Jesus were known as apostles, notable among them are Simon Peter (also known as St. Peter) and Paul.
Jesus was sentenced to death by Roman Governor Pontius Pilate.
Good Friday marks the day of crucifixion. First Sunday after Good Friday is celebrated as Easter to mark the resurrection of Jesus. After crucifixion Jesus appeared before many disciples for 40 days.
Emperor Constantine shifted the capital of the Roman empire from Rome to Byzantium and renamed it as Constantinople (Constantinople is now renamed to Istanbul). Christianity spread in Europe under Constantine’s rule.
Emperor Theodosius I made Christianity the official religion of the Roman empire.
Bible is the holy/sacred book of Christians.
St. Peter’s Church in Rome is the religious headquarter of Christians.
