An Article is Not a Part of Speech
In the English language, words such as ‘the’ are classified as an article, and an article is not considered a part of speech.
Words such as ‘the’ can be used both as an adjective and an adverb, depending on how it’s being used.
So, in short, the word “the” is an article and can be used as an adjective, and an adverb, but it is certainly not a pronoun, preposition, or conjunction.
To Sum It Up
A sentence is made up of words, and these words can be placed in different classes known as parts of speech.
Each part of speech explains what a word is and also how it is used. Another important thing to remember is that the same word can take the form of one part of speech (for example noun) in one sentence and it can be another part of speech (for example a verb or adjective) in another sentence.
These parts of speech are going to be our friends for a long time. So it’s important to get to know them closely.
