Question: Is the recent rise of left and right populist parties better explained by new ideological movements or the politics of identity?

Recent rise of Left or Right Populist parties is a result of either new ideological movements or politics of identity. Eg: Rise of right wing parties is due to politics of identity (eg BJP and rise by identifying itself as a Right wing Hindu Nationalist Party, and the Rise Trump in USA – make America Great). The Rise of Left is mainly due to new ideological movements (eg climate change, environment etc. i.e. democrats and Biden.

Main Body: (what we could include in the main body. We need explain how BJP and Trump leveraged identity to be successful. Refer to any theories, explain in depth how they did it eg BJP : started of with a Rath yatra, ram temple, built the Hindu ideology. Evaluate this approach from different perspectives [Political ideology conservatism? Religious Fundamentalism? Identity Politics? Fascism ? to bring in these concepts please).

Similarly for Trump .. explain how he got people to put American interest above everything else. How he managed to create China, outsourcing, H1B visa as the villain that all people need to rally against. Evaluate this approach from different perspectives (conservatism and Fascism?) Go on explain the Rise of left, which is largely due to new ideological thoughts [Liberalism, socialism, green ideology. You may want to end with there at different times, different approaches are more successful …again give timelines of countries how they shifted approaches at different times.
