Problem Formulation

The purpose of creating a problem formulation report is to make people aware of the hidden dangers of misdiagnosing problems.

Thinking back, identify a situation in which you (or a team that you were part of) were asked to tackle a complex problem and failure to formulate the problem comprehensively led to the development of a suboptimal solution.

In addition to describing the situation as it occurred, please describe what you would do differently now given the content of the course.

The deliverable for this requirement is to make a report that addresses the following key aspects:

• Describe the problem (briefly) and the key players involved in solving it
• Describe how the team was formed, composed, and structured
• Describe the role and behaviour of the leader
• Describe the process that you (or your team) used to formulate the problem
• Describe the extent to which the problem was properly and comprehensively formulated the first time around
• Describe the solution that emerged and the extent to which it addressed the underlying problem
• Describe what you would do differently given the content of the course
