Gadget Detox – A day without electronics with your family. Write your reflection about your day, be sure you include your family members’ experiences.
My parents often tell me not to spend lot of time in front of the television, laptop, phone or iPad. But the fact is that I really like to watch YouTube videos, movies trailers and play games on these gadgets. Besides, my parents themselves are glued to their phones most of the time.

So when my parents decided to have this Gadget detox day, I was expecting it to be a boring day, but what I didn’t realize was that my parents had already planned things for the day.
It was a Sunday, and after having our breakfast, we headed towards south Mumbai. Out first stop was the Byculla Zoo, where the penguins were the main attraction. From there, we headed to Tarapore aquarium and I was really fascinated with the variety of aquatic animals that were on display. From there, we headed to the Gateway of India and enjoyed a boat ride, which a really amazing experience. My dad took the opportunity to show me the college from where he had studied, and told me how the place has not changed much, unlike the rest of Mumbai.
After a fun, but exhausting day, we were back home in the evening. While I was tempted to put the television, my dad reminded me that it was a gadget detox day.
So we decided to do something else. Over the years, I have received several educational games, puzzles and kits, which were lying in the bookshelf. I removed one of them – Mechanix engineering kit. Using the kit, you can make models of cars, helicopters, planes. All the parts are provided; you just have to assemble it. It was lots of fun, but required lot of thinking (it was not as easy as it looked). Later mom joined us and we also played monopoly for some time, before calling it a day.
Looking back at the day, it was pretty exciting and we all felt that we should do such things more often. My parents, in particular, were very happy that I did not see the phone/laptop throughout the day. Our next day excursion is going to be to a place near Karjat, an eco-friendly rural farm surrounded by nature and a river nearby, and I am looking forward to it.
