Life skills inculcated during school and college years leave an indelible impact on human psyche. It is in these formative years that students explore, discover and work out ways to carve their identity.

In the backdrop of these objectives, Mumbai schools & colleges are undertaking “Sustainable Development Project – Adopting a Tribal Village”.
“Students from Oxford University, UK & Seoul National university, Korea are hosted by one of our staff members. They are relentlessly working with our A level students, and are successfully completing the initial seven weeks of the project,” says Principal of USGS & PPSIJC.
Passion displayed by students towards enabling villagers to achieve their basic requirements is laudable. These include water supply, educating villagers on sanitation and hygiene, sourcing water purifiers for village school and using innovative means of utilizing natural lights and solar panels with LED lights are also being adopted in the first phase.
The on-going project aims at sustainable development model for the villagers and is planned so, that at least one member of each family generates a minimum income of INR 200, thus metamorphosing the way villagers live, there livelihood and creation of employment opportunities. Poverty alleviation and in-depth transformation is the long term goal of the project.
Students are benefiting from their interactions with the student interns. One can already see their evolution in direction of exhaustive research and survey skills as well as towards newer approaches to problem solving. It is learning all the way for them.
Through these self-funded projects, schools and colleges hope their students will develop empathy and take responsibility for social cause. Through this exposure they will make a difference to the lives of the underprivileged.
“To create progressive thinkers with strong cultural roots, capable of facing challenges of life,” is not only meant to be displayed on school walls, but is also very well executed.
